How it works

This workflow starts when Shopify reports that a product variant is back in stock. Wysh finds customers who have saved that variant, then Shopify Flow sends a Wishlist item back in stock event to eligible Mailchimp contacts.

The Mailchimp action maps the Shopify customer ID, the customer's last order ID and the product ID. Mailchimp is connected directly to Shopify, so the template does not require an API key.

Before you start

  • Install Shopify Flow, Wysh and the Mailchimp app.
  • Connect Mailchimp directly to your Shopify store.
  • Enable Shopify inventory tracking for the variants you want to monitor.

Install the workflow

  1. Download the ZIP and extract wysh_mailchimp_wishlist_item_back_in_stock.flow.
  2. In Shopify Flow, choose Import workflow.
  3. Select the extracted .flow file.
  4. Review the Mailchimp connection, customer query and event action.
  5. Save the workflow without switching it on.

Customise the workflow

Keep the default event name or rename it to match your Mailchimp conventions. If you change it, use the same name in the Customer Journey or segment that depends on it.

The template uses the product ID from the variant that returned to stock. Review this mapping before building product content around the event.

How customers are selected

Wysh returns customer IDs for the affected variant. The workflow ignores an empty result, then requests up to 100 matching Shopify customers whose email marketing status is SUBSCRIBED. Each returned customer receives a separate Mailchimp event.

The template does not continue beyond the first 100 matching subscribed customers in a single run. Review this limit for high-volume products.

Enable and test

  1. Use a tracked test variant saved by a subscribed test customer.
  2. Set its inventory to zero, then increase it to one or more.
  3. Confirm Shopify Flow finds the customer and completes the Mailchimp action.
  4. Check the Wishlist item back in stock event against the expected Mailchimp contact.
  5. Turn the workflow on only after the test succeeds.

Use the event in Mailchimp

Use the event to start a back-in-stock Customer Journey or identify contacts who have shown intent for a restocked product.

Troubleshooting

  • No trigger: confirm inventory tracking is enabled and the variant moved from out of stock to in stock.
  • No customers found: confirm the exact variant is saved in Wysh.
  • Customer excluded: check that their Shopify email marketing status is subscribed.
  • No Mailchimp event: confirm the Mailchimp connection and inspect the Flow action output.
